How Facebook Reactions Can Help Your Business

Written by Nicole Fassl | Jul 7, 2017 2:30:00 PM

You’ve seen them. Like, Love, Laugh, Shocked, Sad, Angry and sometimes a purple flower, though I still don’t understand it’s purpose. I feel an eyeroll one would be much more useful sometimes. If you don’t already know, I am talking about the Facebook Reactions. It may seem like just another new update on Facebook that doesn’t make much of a difference to us or our business, but there is much more there than meets the eye. Tracking reactions can be beneficial in how our audience really feels about what we are posting. If you are still not sure what I am talking about, I am going to break these reactions down for you.

Users have shared 300 billion Reactions so far, or more than 800 million a day

Where are they and how do they work?

Facebook reactions can be found right under a Facebook status update. When hovering over the “Like” button, you will see these reactions pop up. You can click on the emotion that post makes you feel.

If you click on the link of the received reactions, you will see something like this:

This can give you a good visual summary of how your audience feels about your individual posts. You can gauge the amount of reactions to determine if you should post more content around that particular post’s topic or use it to see what might not be working.

It is important to understand that this is a fairly new update and that some may just be learning how to use it, so don’t be discouraged if you aren’t seeing any reactions on your page yet.

Learn from your audience

You might be posting all the time on Facebook, but is it working for you? Are you seeing any reactions at all? Are you getting “Love” maybe you are seeing a lot of “Anger”. This is a great opportunity to get to know your followers. You can learn what they really want to see. You can even encourage them to use the reactions to see how they feel about a particular post. Reactions are a great way to engage with your audience on a different level. They are similar to a poll or survey, but are constantly on and working for you.

Monitoring competitor Reactions

Another way this tool can be used is to see how your competitor’s audience feels about what they are posting. You can create content about what their audience likes to see, or avoid what is not working for them. Peruse their page and get an idea about what might bring you more traffic. See what you should be talking about.

Personalize your business

Just as posting company pictures at events or conferences puts a face or faces to a business, reactions can add more personality to your brand, in a way, humanizing it. Instead of the regular “Like” you can add more personality to your business. If you aren’t at least "Liking” other's posts from your business, you should start.
