We Give a Bleep About Our Brand Reputation

Written by Nicole Fassl | Jun 6, 2013 11:59:46 AM

A lot of people don’t give too much thought to their online reputation. I have witnessed many social media posts and have to shake my head. They don’t realize this is actually shaping the way people think of them.

I am pretty laid back about things. I have seen plenty Facebook posts and Twitter tweets that border inappropriate. However, there is a BIG difference between being funny and being inappropriate.

Social Media for Business

When it comes to your business' brand reputation, you have to straighten-up and make sure what you are putting out there is not going to be taken as offensive or unprofessional. Chances are, if you have any concerns whatsoever, someone else may as well. When in doubt, throw it out! Essentially, your brand is built by your reputation. Take a look at the blog, Brand Can’t Succeed Without a Reputation That Matches for more information.

It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it . If you think about that, you’ll do things differently. -Warren Buffett

If it is not you in charge of your online reputation management, you might want to check and make sure that your social media team is doing a good job at keeping you out of trouble. Check out, The Importance of Monitoring Your Online Reputation for some advice on fixing your reputation if necessary.

A Marketing Agency's Perspective: Managing Several Accounts

It is even more important if you are in charge of several clients' accounts. Not only are you responsible for your reputation, but more importantly, theirs as well. On Facebook, brand posts achieve 50% of their reach within 30 minutes. That being said, you may want to check your employees work quite frequently, to catch any mistakes before it is too late. Your online reputation is everything. People look up everything and everyone online, before even meeting you. So, since first impressions are everything, make sure it’s a good one.
